Preparation for short term mission trips can truly be the difference
between a successful missions trip and and ineffective one. Please ensure that you take the necessary step to
properly prepare, but don't stress out about it. If you humble yourself and open yourself up
to the purpose God has planned for you, you will be a blessing to others and be blessed yourself.
I have witnessed good, well-meaning Christians fail miserably on short term mission trips only because they were
not prepared to humble themselves before God and man and reach out to others.
It is a great tragedy that most missionary organizations who train excited, well-intentioned,
Christ-loving short term missionaries spend most of their training time on specific do's and don't's,
theology and missiology. The key ingredient to success on your short term mission trip will be your
love and acceptance of the people with whom you will come into contact. By far, the most important
aspect of international missions trips is...
... love.
Remember, you will reap what you sow; therefore, sow heavily in love and you will reap the same in
abundance. If you lay yourself out for God's glory, He will not let you fall. The law of
sowing and reaping is absolutely true; I have proven it in my own life and mission trip experience, and you
will prove it in your's as well, if you follow these simple tips. It is the Law of God; there are no
exceptions to this.
The Key to Missionary Success is Love and Humility
Although you will certainly impact many people's lives with the gospel of
Jesus Christ on your short term missions, the greatest person who will
be changed is... you.
Be prepared for your life to never be the same, for your eyes never to see the same again. And you will be
more sensitive to the context and culture of others around you so that you will be able to minister more
effectively as a missionary for life.
Your missions adventure has only just begun! The rest of your life will be your witness for the
power of short term mission trips.
