More Mission Trip Tips and Ideas

There are so many advantages to the Christian who will trust God and participate on a mission trip to another part of the world.  Yes, it is expensive in most cases to travel on a mission trip, especially with the cost of airfare or even high fuel prices these days.  But the pros outweigh the cons by a mile.

Although I write a great deal about the inefficiency of the full time foreign Christian missionary supplanting the role of the local indigenous church, I am still a very great advocate of normal, everyday Christians experiencing at least one mission trip in their lifetime.  There are so many great lessons that the Lord will teach us if we only trust him and open our hearts on mission trips.

If you as a Christian will simply open yourself up to new possibilities outside of your "church box" on your missions trip, God will reveal truths that will completely change your life for his glory.  These changes will display themselves once you return from your mission trip in your finances, relationships, and in many practical ways, which will grow you more and more into the image of Jesus Christ.

A Mission Trip Will Change Your Life

Once you have been on a Christian mission trip, you will notice a huge change in the way you view your finances and expenses that you used to deem as essential needs.  A mission trip adventure will open your eyes to see that many of the "things" you thought were so valuable and indispensable are luxuries that many do without.  Because of that, you will think and pray about your financial decisions with more care than you used to.

This is not to say that you should immediately sell all your belongings; however, you will begin to recognize that God has blessed you with the ability to share his resources with others who lack, and be more open to the possibility of a more austere lifestyle for the sake of others.  In a word, you will understand how finances are meant to be used in the Kingdom of God, and for additional missions trips.

In addition, you will certainly grow spiritually on your mission trip.  If you truly place yourself in situations where God must manifest his power and provision on your mission trip, your faith will begin to bud and blossom, which will shape your life even more for the Lord.

Living a life of faith is the key ingredient of all of the heroes of men and women of God throughout human history (see Hebrews 11), and really the one thing God wants of us on this earth.

Your life will also begin to be changed in practical ways from your short term mission trip, such as in your relationships with others.  Do not assume, however, that these improved relationships will always be with your old friends, because many people will revolt at the "new you", and your "radical beliefs".  You might be surprised to learn how deeply ingrained the status quo is set, even among your most trusted Christian friends.
